Super Mario Galaxy

September 8th, 2008

by Chris Photinopoulos

I just finished playing “Super Mario Galaxy” for the first time and all I really want to say is wow! Mario games are usually known for being fun and entertaining and they always seem to show us why Nintendo has been in the console game business for so long.

This episode of Super Mario is not just on par but it really takes gaming to another level all together. Even from the very first level you sink right into an amazing 3D world of fantastic visuals, insane gravity and lots of charm.

Most of what I experienced was typical 3D Mario equipped with King Koopa, toad stool people, evil enemy mushroom and turtles all of which we will remember from Super Mario 64. What you will also notice as soon as you step foot on your first galaxy is that the gravity breaks all the rules you have ever seen in games of old. The worlds are small enough that you can run all theĀ  way around them and walls that you normally would think are decorative are actually paths that you can run up, down and around.

Once you get over the shock and awe of being able to run on ceilings and walls the game will send you blasting through space and fighting bosses and baddies in ways that I have never really seen before. Before I even started this game a lot of people told me that it was too short but I really feel that it felt short because it is so dynamic that every few levels you play feels like you are playing a different game. The innovations in game play are outstanding and it will leave you wanting more.

I don’t really have anything negative to say about “Super Mario Galaxy” it really opened up a new experience for me with the controls and game play. Mario games are usually fantastic and I honestly will say that this is the best one yet and is a must play for any Wii owner.
