How to Copy Wii and Gamecube Games
Dispite what some people think it is perfectly ok to make backup copy’s of software for your personal use depending on your location and local law. Making a backup of your original Wii DVD’s is a nice way to ensure that they do not get demolished at parties or by small children. It also ensures that when it is time to Sell or Trade your games they are in perfect working order. It is our right (in Canada) to make backup copy’s of our software and it’s important that we know how. To learn more about how to protect our rights in Canada check out Michael Geist’s Blog it is filled with amazing information.
You will also need a mod chip installed into the Wii to play these backups.
The Wii and Gamecube have the exact same backup method, they will also both run in the Wii in case you did not know that. In fact is extremely simple process… but everything is once you know how. The problem with Wii backups isn’t so much as the process, it is more about having the right equipment. Not all DVD drives an see the Wii disc and so there is only a small selection of DVD drives that you must find in order successfully read the disk to copy. The four drives that work are… LG-8164b, LG-8163b, LG-8162b andĀ LG-8161b. These drives are also out of production so they are getting quite rare.
This is a snap shot of one of the Drive you can see the sticker on the top is where you identify the model numbers. (I am also selling this drive for $80 shipping included if anyone is interested… I only have one and it is brand new. Please e-mail admin@ndspower.com if you are interested - paypal only)
After you have the proper drive, the program you will need is called RawDump2.0 this file is in a RAR format so you will need to uncompress it in order for it to work. You might also need .net framework 2.0 installed on the computer if you do not have it already.
To uncompress the file you will need some kind of compression program like WinRAR.
Onces you have RawDump2.0 uncompressed on your computerĀ you can run the EXE file. Place the Wii Disk in your DVD Drive and choose “Start Dump”. RawDump2.0 will produce a copy of the DVD in a .iso format in the same directory that you ran RawDump. You can use ImgBurn Which is a free ISO burning program to put the image on a new DVD. Make sure you burn the game at 2x or 4x speed to ensure a stable burn. Once you do this you can run the game. Remember to check the local laws before you make backups as I hold no responsibility for anyone elses actions.
